VIrginia's 40th Birthday

I finally found some time to organize the pictures from Virginia's surprise party, so this post comes a few months after the actual event. The party was difficult to plan because I really wanted it to take place in the new house but I wasn't sure if the house would be finished. Plus, I needed to give people as much advance notice as possible. Even still, a good number of people were not able to attend. As it turns out, the house wasn't quite done but it was close enough to have a party in. Of course, it was still a construction zone so a little cleanup was in order (okay, a LOT of cleanup was in order).

The pretext for Virginia was that the two of us were going out to dinner. But first, we were going to stop by the new house to have some champagne and to take some time to really imagine living there when the construction crew was gone. Behind the scenes, Terry and Robin had been working their tails off to clean the place up and Virginia's mom and some friends brought in some tables, chairs, and decorations. When we arrived, the place looked fantastic. With over a month of planning, I'm surprised we were able to keep the secret from Virginia. She says she had no idea, and judging from the pictures, I don't think she's lying.

As this was Virginia's 40th birthday and she was now officially "over the hill", it seemed appropriate to let her know what she's got to look forward to. To enlighten her on the joys of aging, I poked around and found a little known John Denver song that summed things up pretty well. The link below allows you to hear the song if you're interested.

When the party was done, it was time to clean up and go home. It wasn't long after this that we actually moved into the house. I owe thanks to a lot of people who helped out with the party. In particular, Priscilla, Robin, and Terry did a tremendous job of cleaning and setting up for the event. Thank you so much!

Definitely a surprise on V's face! ALso, the PV install is pretty cool...did you get the tax credit? Ben

Ben: We should get a fairly good rebate from the state sometime in the next few months and are eligible for the 30% federal tax credit for the solar panels. But that won't happen till we file our 2010 tax return.
